Big site update

The Companies listing is finally on-line! I've been working hard to make this the most complete and up-to-date list of Yoda items anywhere, so I hope it helps. You can look up items using the new search feature, so if you have an obscure item you've been wanting to know more about, give it a whirl. I've also added over a dozen items to the Chronological listing. There's also a, shall we say, "odd"  addition to the Wallpapers section, so check it out. More soon...

Hayden Christensen interview in Insider #50

This may be old news to some, but I thought it was pretty cool. In his interview with the Insider, the new Anakin gets asked:

SW Insider : Do you have a favorite Star Wars character?

          Hayden : Vader! [Laughs]

SW Insider : Anyone besides Vader?

Hayden : Yoda. I love Yoda.

So, the kid has taste. I might get to like this new Vader after all. Be sure to pick up the new Star Wars Insider and read the whole interview.

This little cartoon was posted at Newgrounds.com a couple of weeks ago and has been mentioned on several sites, but I just checked out now and if you haven't, you should. I never thought I'd see Yoda doing that!

No Yoda fight scene in Episode II?

Dark Horizons reported a few days ago that, according to Nick Gillard (Episode II stunt coordinator), Yoda will not have a fight scene in the next Star Wars prequel as has been previously rumored. While Lucas has said that we will see why Yoda is called the master in a future Star Wars flick, he never did say which one. Looks like we may have to wait for Epiode III to see the green one take charge. Thanks to Jedinet for the news.

Yoda's voice

TFN updated late yesterday with some news regarding Yoda in Episode II :

Possible Spoilers (highlight below to read):

Allegedly, Frank Oz was not on the set for the filming of Yoda's scenes. Apparently, Ahmed Best filled in for Yoda's voice in those scenes until Frank Oz can do the dubbing for them.

Obviously, this news has some implications if it's true:

Frank Oz not on the set?!? Does that mean someone else is puppeteering Yoda? Possible, but not likely. More likely, Yoda will be fully CG in those scenes. This lends some weight to the possibility of a fight scene, despite what Gillard said (see below). Might Yoda be fully CG in the film? Or is this report simply erroneous?

That's something to chew on, I think.

New Yoda toothbrush

SirSteve's Guide put up pictures of the new Colgate Star Wars toothbrushes, including one of Yoda. Instead of a picture of the character, these feature an awesome sculpted base, so keep your eyes peeled for this cool new Yoda collectible.

Prequel speculation

I was reading the latest Prequel Update with Rick McCallum (can you tell I got my issue of the Insider this weekend?) and in it he mentions that we'll see Yoda in some action in Episode II. Now, Dark Horizons had a quote from Nick Gillard a few days ago, where he mentions that Yoda will not fight in the next prequel. Of course, McCallum's quote came a few months ago, so it's possible that the fight scene was merely cut, but it's possible that something else is afoot. Maybe...

Possible spoilers (highlight below to read)

It's possible that Yoda will be fully computer generated in the fight scenes, as may be his foes, so perhaps Nick Gillard wasn't consulted for these scenes. This becomes even more probable if you consider the possibility that Yoda doesn't use a lightsaber in fights, since that would mean that no fancy saber swings would need to be devised. Could it be we'll see Yoda smashing his foes all around with merely a wave of his hands?

Or maybe I'm just full of it, which is actually more likely.

New Yoda screen saver

The very talented webmaster of Star Wars Desktop has made a fantastic Yoda screen saver. All of the screen savers on his site are works of art, and Yoda's is no exception. Some of you may already know that there is a Yoda model  for the popular PC game, Half-Life. (The model is available for download in the Skins section, btw.) Well, now there is an entire multiplayer modification based around Yoda. It seems everything in the game, from the player models to the weapons, is Yoda! The mod has become so popular that it even has its own dedicated server. Give the Yoda mod site a visit and see it for yourself.

The last poll ended with 58% of you wanting to see more of Yoda's species, while the other 42% would rather keep Yoda unique. This month's question deals with Yoda's origin, so please cast your vote and give Yoda fans your opinion.

The things people will sell

Sometimes even I can't believe the things people will put a Star Wars character on to boost sales. Case in point : Yoda soda, currently up for auction on ebay, and available in four flavors which are all delicious, I'm sure. Bid if you must. These, and three other fine unauthorized items have been added to the Bootlegs / Unproduced section.

NY Post tribute to Sir Alec

The New York Post ran a drawing of Yoda, Threepio and Artoo mourning the loss of Sir Alec Guinness a few days back. Click here to see it if you missed it.

New Poll

Last month's poll ended with some surprising results. I seems most of you would like an Episode II Yoda preview figure, and the least wanted figure was an Episode I Action Collection Yoda (which personally I would really dig).  I started a new poll a couple of days ago, but hadn't drawn any attention to it since I wanted to get it working on Netscape first. Well, it seems as if it now shows up correctly, so please, vote and let other Yoda fans know your opinion.
